Aces work on discipline By ANDRE GRIMAUX NEW Albany Creek coach Paul Edwards has demanded a greater level of respect from his young squad in the hope a more disciplined side will avoid relegation from Division 1. After replaying John Daye two weeks ago, Edwards has quickly set about changing the mindset of his team knowing he has just seven matches to rescue the Aces from a possible drop into Division 2. “There are some very talented players here and some very experienced coaches. “The club just needs to be pulled together and have everyone moving in on direction,” the Mancunian said. “The first team here is very young but they’ve shown great attitude and I believe the right results are just around the corner. “The only thing I’m concerned about is the time factor. “I’ve been brought in with eight games to go and quickly surrounded myself with other experienced coaches. “What we’ve told the boys is we demand more respect and the club demands more respect. “We’ve been quit strict with the discipline and we’ve found that coaching style has worked. “The boys are willing to put more training in. “There seems to be more discipline, and with discipline, they seem to be more focussed on the game.” Aces lost 3-0 to second placed Queensland Lions on Sunday afternoon, but Edwards would b pleased with his side’s improved determination against a tougher and more experience side. Edwards unveiled his support staff last week, which includes co-coach Ray Bentley, who has spent five seasons at Brisbane Strikers, renowned Aces goalkeeping coach Darrel Vecchio and team manager Paul Simpson. Bentley said the focus of the new coaches would be to get Aces out of relegation trouble and build the club into a positive family environment again.
